The Harvest Festival is Nov. 14 to Nov. 16 at the County Event Center. Doors open each day at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 5 p.m. on Sunday. This is the biggest of all the festivals in San Mateo, drawing thousands of visitors each year.

Some of the highlights of the festival include:

  • Renowned for his ability to make food sculptures, Chef Ray Duey will host a showcase of his work through a series of special demonstrations throughout the weekend.
  • Let your children experience the thrill of hands-on crafts at Kidzone. They will learn how to decorate Gingerbread cookies and make other crafts at home.
  • More than 20,000 pieces will be on display and up for sale from the best local artists.

Tickets for the event are on sale now. They are $9 for adults, $4 for children over 12, with younger children receiving free admission.

Ride the Ghost Train Through Lemos Farm in Half Moon Bay

Autumn is upon us, and that means that Halloween is just around the corner. There are so many wonderful fall events around San Mateo to take part in this season.

Lemos Farm is one of the best places to go for pumpkins this season. The pumpkin patches are some of the finest in the area, with pumpkins of all shapes and sizes to choose from. To make matters even more exciting, this farm also offers many fun activities to take part in.

For a family fun adventure, be sure to take a ride on the Ghost Train. This locomotive will take you around the farm, and it is sure to spook you as you move through the beautiful grounds full of ghosts and goblins.

There are also some haunted houses to walk through. One haunted house is for younger kids, a safer ride where there are scary sights but not too scary. The other haunted house is for kids of all ages (adults included!) where they’re going to “scare the yell out of you!”
